Spiritual leaders are dependent upon God’s guidance, direction, strength, and provisions. Spiritual leaders are also aware that followers are dependent upon them for the same.

Guidance involves advice and instruction for the conduct and behavior of life.

Direction shows the way, primarily the way to the final destination.

Strength is needed to get up and keep moving toward the goal.

Provisions are given to continue the journey, even when all else seems to fail.

The role is never taken lightly. It is critical to building a solid foundation that supplies the basic components for growth in relationship with God.

Kindness…

Kindness applies to every area of the Christian life.

Kenneson’s application of kindness begins by asking how important others are to our life’s story? Reflecting on the most cherished and admired relationships, in what ways are they characterized by interdependence?

A Christian’s life is intricately woven into the lives of other people. How different would our approach to kindness be if our livelihood was dependent on others and their livelihood dependent on us?

Listening and interacting with others is crucial to demonstrating kindness. If Christians demonstrate more kindness in a culture that is characterized by self-sufficiency, imagine how different the world might look.

Trusting God’s Leadership…

One of the common themes throughout the Psalms encourages God’s people to seek refuge and trust in Him. Notice the thought expressed in Psalm 118, “It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in man.”

When we trust in ourselves, we can easily become frustrated with our lack of abilities.

When we trust in others, we often become disillusioned to the role of humanity.

Overall, leaders must set the example of trust and dependence upon God. We must learn to trust with all our heart and seek refuge in Him, rather than ourselves or others.

On the heels of July 4th, here are a couple of thoughts.

Our world continually fights for independence. 

On an international level, countries strive to achieve their freedom. They want to stand on their own, make their own way, establish their own direction.

On a professional level, the business world demonstrates similar areas as individuals and companies work for financial liberty.

On a personal level, if not careful, we train our children to do the same. We urge them to grow up and learn how to make it on their own.

From a spiritual perspective, we need to teach a greater dependence on God and let Him take care of the rest.
