Leading Self

When we examine our day to day activities we need to ask ourselves, “How well do I lead myself?”

Thomas J. Watson Sr. said, “Nothing so conclusively proves a man’s ability to lead others as what he does from day to day to lead himself.”

Have we established specific plans for the last few months of this year?

Are we disciplined enough to use each day to finish, and finish strong?

We all influence others. We are leaders.

Now is the time for us to understand the power of our influence and make proper application to leading self.

Showing Up

At one time or another, we all feel a little less than our best. During these times our energy levels are lower and we are not on top of our game. We do not feel well and we are unmotivated to work

Jerry West once said, “You can’t get much done in life if you only work on the days when you feel good.”

How can we show up when we do not feel as good as other days?

Remember our purpose.
Put one foot in front of the other.
Focus on the goal.
Remain dedicated to finish.

The Motivation to Lead

…remember the purpose. Do not lose sight of why we lead.

…put one foot in front of the other. At times, just getting started helps.

…focus on the goal. The result promises to be worth the effort.

…remain dedicated to finish. It is not how you start, but how you finish that makes a difference.

Finish Strong…

There is something about the grand opening, the starting gun, the first day, or the kick off that strikes at the heart of people to get them on board.

Because we are often a short-sighted and an immediate-satisfaction oriented people, the long range goals seldom come to fruition.

Weariness, stress, slow movement, and discouragement set in and cause us to forget or lose sight of the excitement the original goals provided at the beginning.

In leadership circles, the idea of finishing well is becoming more prevalent. We need leaders who know how to start but also how to finish well.
