Enduring Leadership

Blueprints provide details to make certain a structure will last.

What kind of blueprint will help leaders ensure their leadership is long-lasting?

All blueprints begin with the foundation. Only by building on the right foundation will our leadership carry a lasting influence.

Paul points out there is no human who has the power to lay the kind of foundation needed for lasting leadership. Only Jesus provides a foundation for enduring leadership (1 Corinthians 3:11).

From His example we learn the nature, qualities, and character of the leadership God desires and designed for us today.

Improving Our Leadership

Leaders know who they are and always seek improvement.

One of the most challenging areas in our leadership involves an honest self-examination. Seeking to improve ourselves in leadership is vital to success.

One of the ways to accomplish this improvement is through asking some difficult questions.

Do we really want to be a leader?
What is the motivation behind our desire to lead?
Are we willing to make the necessary sacrifices to lead effectively?
Will we commit to the task of continually developing our abilities to lead?

The answers provide a foundation to help us know who we are and our approach to improving our leadership.

Leading in Two Worlds

A leader must be a student. Obviously, there are many areas to study. From a spiritual leadership perspective, we live in two worlds.

We must know the world we live in physically. We need to know the challenges people face who live in this world. We need to know the struggles and trials encountered.

We must also know the world we live for spiritually. Because we have never been there, it can be difficult. We must rely on the information provided in God’s word. Therefore, we must be a student of His word.

All we say and do now is building a foundation for a world to come.

Believing in Others…

Everyone needs someone to believe in them, especially a father. Jim Valvano once said, “My father gave me the greatest gift anyone could give another person, he believed in me.”

I am thankful my father believed in me and my ability to do ministry. In some ways, he spent his life preparing me for this work.

While I am thankful for the foundation he laid, knowing he had confidence in me to accomplish the work was encouraging.

No one achieves anything of value alone. We need others to believe in us and express confidence in our abilities.

Great leaders see it and know how to build that confidence in others.

Lasting Leadership…

Blueprints provide specific dimensions for constructing everything from a tool shed to a mega complex or high rise.

A blueprint outline every detail to ensure the structure will last.

Where can leaders find a blueprint that will benefit them and ensure lasting leadership? The Bible.

Paul points out no human has the power to lay the kind of foundation needed for lasting leadership. Only Jesus can provide that kind of foundation (1 Corinthians 3:11).

From His example we learn the nature, qualities, and character of leadership that God desires for us today.
