Physical and Spiritual

We need to take care of our physical health. Instead of a fad diet, be moderate. Learn to not eat beyond comfort. Add exercise. This is not a push to be in the gym five times a week, but taking small steps. Why not park further from the store and walk? Twenty to thirty minutes a day of brisk walking will bring surprising results.

Nothing takes greater precedence than our spiritual health. This is not about reading and praying more. Obviously, we all need to do so. However, spiritual health involves application of what is written. Instead of speaking in anger, think of the song “Angry Words.”

The Inessentials

What comes to mind when you read this thought from Bruce Lee, “It is not a daily increase, but a daily decrease. Hack away at the inessentials”?

Removing the weight that easily burdens us and slows us down, eliminating areas of life that are unimportant to the greater development of our spiritual well-being, or eradicating the distractions vying for our attention, is a thought that can be a game changer.

This exercise alone will help prioritize life, regain needed focus, and strengthen our resolve in matters of eternal consequence.

Our health, family, jobs, our God and His church deserve consideration of this thought.

Be The Rainbow

Without exception, we all experience days that are unpleasant. These days can be clouded by the challenges of life, e.g. family problems, health issues, financial struggles, relational matters, etc.

Maya Angelou once said, “Try to be a rainbow in someone’s cloud.”

We should all want to follow such leaders and, better yet, emulate them.

Learn to smile more. A friendly smile can make all the difference in someone’s day.

Genuinely ask about someone’s day. People need to know someone cares.

Learn to listen to the words, tone of voice, and body language. Listen with our ears, eyes, and heart.

Goals for 2020…

Goals? It is that time a year…again! We say good-bye to 2019 and welcome 2020. Just the sound of 2020 builds on the concept of the vision we discussed yesterday. But, what about goals?

Everyone needs some sort of goals in their personal and professional life. We may have goals related to health, family, finance, career, education, etc.

However, when we think about goals for the year ahead try to remember the need to avoid just making wishes. Goals must follow the SMART acronym. 

On a personal level: Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-bound

On a professional level: Specific, Measurable, Assignable, Realistic, Time-bound

Nutritional Leaders…

Health, healthy food, and exercise seem quite popular these days. It appears that physical exercise is directly related to the nutritional value of the food we eat. Go figure.

Consider a connection to leadership.

The healthier the food, the healthier the body. Isn’t this true of leadership? The healthier the leadership, the healthier the followers.

It is easier to talk about, than do. Wow! How true. Every leader knows that talking about leading is easier than leading.

Good nutrition extends the quality of life. Leaders who feed followers a nutritious spiritual diet extend the quality of both leader and follower.

The benefits of a nutritional leader help both sides.
