The Leadership App

We’ve all heard the phrase, “There’s an app for that.” No matter what happens in life, or what need might exist, there is an app for it.

There are apps that deal with health, fitness, world news, travel, banking, social media, photography, weather, education, leadership, and the list is unending. You may be reading today’s post from an app.

More to the point: when you consider the far reaching nature of your leadership, are you influencing others in areas concerning life’s circumstances and their various needs?

Imagine the impact if they knew that you were a resource they could turn to instead of a technological device.

Leading Technology

Be familiar with newer and emerging technologies.

Leadership (being a great leader) is not contingent on using or keeping up with emerging technology. Many leaders from the past and many in the future may never use technology.

However, we cannot deny the incredible opportunities that technology presents in the development of our leadership.

Tools for training, mentoring, guidance, and encouragement are available to everyone.

If we have the opportunity to utilize the tools of technology to grow in our leadership and influence thousands, if not millions more, will God not hold us accountable for such?

Contingent Leadership…

The one consistency facing leadership today is change. Apart from technology, science, medicine, etc., people change!

When leaders cast the vision, point others to the goal, and establish plans, change occurs. Several questions should be considered.

What contingency is in place when changes occur?
Are the consequences of a contingency minimal?
Will the contingency create a loss of morale?
Who will implement the contingency during the transition?
How will the contingency affect the overall vision and goals?
When is the appropriate time to initiate the contingency?

Answering a few questions can help negotiate challenges that occur when change is inevitable.

Leadership and Technology…

Advances in technology have changed the way we communicate and carry out leadership.

Leaders must learn how best to use technology to assist in their leadership.

First, do not deny, reject, or excuse the technology that exists. Technology is here to stay. Embrace it.
Second, be open to and take time to learn. Seek help.
Third, use areas of technology where followers are engaged. If they use Facebook, then get on Facebook.
Fourth, always approach and use technology as a tool for building up others.

If we use technology appropriately, it can be a tool of great influence for the kingdom.

Leading In Less Than One Second…

Jules Verne wrote Around The World In 80 Days. Traveling around the world in a hot air balloon was exciting and the adventure thrilling.

The 21st century has ushered in a few changes. The adventure no longer takes 80 days, or 80 minutes, or even 80 seconds.  In less than one second, with the touch of a button, this can all be experienced through the internet. Technology has changed everything.

Leading in such a time moves us to rethink our approach to every relationship.

For leaders, this is an opportunity to expedite the gospel to the world. How are we using these God-given tools to communicate the hope of Christianity?
