Fear Is Gone

Fear of the unknown ranks near the top of most people’s fear. It encompasses so many different areas, the unknown with the economy, job security, health, and safety.

Certainly, the unknowns of leadership would qualify.

The task before us in spiritual leadership is to remove these unknowns. When we consider death, we may fear the unknown of what happens at death.

However, because of the death and resurrection of Jesus, this fear has been removed. We can provide no greater confidence to others than sharing this hope. Because He lives, all fear is gone.

Great Work

As spiritual leaders, we need to love what we do, knowing the benefits for the life to come.

We need to believe and know this is a great work!

Steve Jobs once said, “Your work is going to fill a large part of your life, and the only way to be truly satisfied is to do what you believe is great work. And the only way to do great work is to love what you do. If you haven’t found it yet, keep looking. Don’t settle.”

The work is far too valuable and important to do just enough to get by, the bare minimum.

This is God’s work. Let us love it, live it, and invest our lives into it.

Step Aside

At some point, we all face the challenge of leaving one position for another. Imagine the difference when we do so with the mindset of not stepping down, but stepping aside.

We all get older. As we do, we need an awareness of what we are able and unable to accomplish as leaders.

One of the best ways to help the work continue is not by stepping down, but stepping aside.

Stepping down brings an element of finality and completion.

Stepping aside offers a way to help as the work continues. It brings a powerful element of mentorship for the one who follows.

Legacy

Consider the power one person has to change the world.

Numerous people have changed the direction of events in history. However, none compare to the power of the One who changed the course of the physical and eternal realm.

He is the One we need to know. He is the One we must lead others to know.

While others may leave an incredible legacy, their lives will end and their soul will stand in the presence of the Creator.

Our legacy as leaders must make a difference in the eternal outcome of others, not just the physical.

Suffering Leaders

Research will show the word passion comes from a Latin word meaning “to suffer.”

Most will remember the movie The Passion Of The Christ. The title for the movie was derived from the idea of the Latin word.

The Leadership Legacy, written by Kouzes and Posner, quickly points out the need for leaders to understand they must serve and suffer.

Leaders must put the needs of others above themselves. This Biblical truth and the quality of great leadership are seen when leaders abandon a self-seeking, worldly approach.

Be passionate, but understand what passion really means.

Missional Leadership

The world’s population is beyond comprehension.

Think about the plethora of languages.
Think about our inability to communicate adequately.
Think about how all of these people can come to know Christ.
Think about their soul!
Think about what can and needs to be done.

We need to give thanks for the dedication and willingness of mission-minded brethren who have and continue to labor in uncomfortable places.

We need to work with them and build upon their efforts in ways to reach more people.

Determination

We often hear about the need to never give up. We will face situations where it seems easier to quit than persevere. Babe Ruth said, “It’s hard to beat a person who never gives up.”

This quality should stand out in leaders today.

Discouragement is almost certain. Signs may point to defeat.

However, this one thought should constantly keep us motivated in the good fight of faith. Satan is banking on us giving up, especially as leaders.

The only way to fail is to quit. Remember, it is hard to beat a person who never gives up.

CIA

This is not referring to the Central Intelligence Agency.

For our purposes, CIA stands for Consistency In Action. When leaders demonstrate consistency others have an example worth following.

Jesus constantly addressed the problem of inconsistency demonstrated by religious leaders.

Among other areas, their inconsistency was seen in giving, prayer, and fasting. Their worship was worthless. Their lips moved in the right direction, but their heart went in the opposite direction.

Jesus condemned them because their actions did not align with their teaching.

If we lead with CIA, our influence will reach greater heights.

Perseverance

Perseverance is the ability to hold on five more minutes.

It is hard, however, when you are at the end of your rope. Yet, one of the most needed qualities in leadership is perseverance.

How do you develop it?

Remember what has been invested and what is at stake.
Do not forget there is help. You are not alone.
Take one minute and one step at a time.
Develop a “never quit” attitude.

Perhaps simple, but they are foundational steps to perseverance.

The soul is worth the effort to persevere.

Focus

How many times do people refer to loosing their focus? When athletes fall short of success, it is generally because they lost focus.

Leaders cannot afford to lose focus.

Distractions take the form of financial problems, family issues, health challenges, tragedy, email, texts, calls, and numerous other areas.

While we cannot ignore certain issues when they arise, we can learn from them and maintain our focus, or we can lose sight of our priorities.

Focus is a matter of choice.

People need leadership to help them maintain their focus.
