Successful Leadership…

We are told that we influence a minimum of four people everyday. Kenneth Blanchard said, “The key to successful leadership today is influence, not authority.”

But, what kind of influence are we exercising?

We need to guard our influence because it effects the character, behavior, and development of others. Our influence can either be good or bad.

If we have opportunity to influence others by bringing them to Christ, or influence Christians in faithfulness, should we not do so?

The time we have on earth is limited and fleeting. Each day that passes can never be regained or relived. Now is the best opportunity to ensure our influence for Christ.

Guardians of the Faith…

Guarding the faith of Christians is not an easy task? The battle is fierce. The danger is great. The opportunities for success may be few.

However, with God on our side we are assured victory.

Satan works to fill our schedules to overflowing. We get busy with so much stuff we have no time left for eternal matters.

While it is true for each of us individually, we can also get so busy with programs and activities within the church we lose sight of our purpose.

We need balance. When we allow these things to push out the spiritual, Satan can steal our faith.

We need guardians.

Successful Leadership…

Success has been defined in numerous ways, but how we define and measure success is critical to leadership.

Here are a few suggestions to consider.

1) Setting smart goals and developing solid plans to achieve them

2) Growing spiritually stronger in relationship to God and others

3) Utilizing God’s word as the standard for decisions

4) Providing the right tools to assist others reach their potential

Ultimately, changed lives are the true measure of success. We could say so much more, but the point is the same. As spiritual leaders, we must define and measure success by the lives changed within our sphere of influence.

Motivational Leadership…

What motivates us? Success? Money? Security? Relationships? Power? Survival? Growth?

Whatever it is, leaders are called upon to motivate others. The art of motivation involves knowing how to stimulate or excite action toward desired interests.

The New Testament provides a number of unusual examples.

The greatest in the kingdom are servants.

Those who receive have presented themselves as a living sacrifice.

The blessed first give to others.

Think about the spiritual leadership we offer. Have we set the example based on what motivates us in the same direction?

Here is where our leadership begins. We must be motivated to motivate others to an eternal home.

If… Part 2

We left off yesterday with this question: “What would we do if we knew we could not fail?

Would we talk to the neighbor across the street if we could not fail?

Would we set greater goals for reaching the lost of our state or country if we could not fail?

Would our approach to world missions take on loftier efforts if we could not fail?

We cannot fail! The Bible reminds us that not one of God’s good promises ever failed.

He has promised to be with us and never forsake us, to listen to us and counsel us, and to give the increase.

Why are we waiting?

If…

Think about the various ways we use the word “if.”

If we could only win a game.
If I had a dime for every time I heard someone say…
If you do that one more time I am going to…
If I hear this again I will go crazy.
If archaeologists could find (pick out a Biblical artifact) I would believe.

We often use this word in a conditional sense.

Consider the significance of this word in a question: “What would we do if we knew we could not fail?”

Think about it and we will look at more tomorrow.

Laying Bricks…

Leadership is rewarding, but it can be difficult. We often spend our time focusing on the negative and challenging areas of leadership. The trick is learning how to turn the negative into positive, to take the challenge and turn it into success.

David Brinkley said, “A successful man is one who can lay a firm foundation with the bricks others have thrown at him.”

Brinkley’s thought is a wonderful advice. The ability to take what comes at us as leaders and use it to lay a foundation for the future is critical to success.

It may not be the most pleasurable approach, but the outcome is worth the time in the wilderness.

Successful Leading…

Success is linked to a vision, goals, and plans.

A daily “to-do” list provides great value as we check off each item accomplished, and leaders understand that success is built upon daily achievement over an extended period.

What is the point?

The only way we can enjoy true success is when we know where we are going and what we must do to get there.

Talking about a checklist for life and leadership has little meaning if we are not aware of both. We must determine where we want to go and develop a plan/checklist to help us get there.

If we desire to help people reach heaven, then think about how we will lead them there.
